Unit 2: Physical Environments - Coastal, Tectonic and River Landscapes
Coastal Landscapes:
Coastal landforms are created by the powerful forces of waves as they erode, transport and deposit material along the coast. Watch this You Tube clip to see how coasts are changing and the processes which are involved.
Where coasts are being eroded, such as along the Holderness coast, there are a range of management strategies which can be used to slow cliff retreat and protect property from falling into the sea.
Tectonic Landscapes:
Tectonic landscapes are some of the most amazing and dynamic places on earth. Start first with the distribution of plate margins and an explanation of the different landforms which are found associated with particular locations.
Secondly, learn how earthquakes and volcanoes impact on people and property and how these natural hazards can be managed. |
River Landscapes:
The unit on River Landscapes is primarily focused on the different landforms created in the upper, middle and lower course of the river. If you watch only one You Tube clip - watch this one as it takes you along a single river.
The following YouTube clips help to explain the different river processes and landforms. Make sure you can explain the formation of each landform we have studied. Do not forget to include the key processes which take place and an example of the landform. Make sure you practice a few drawing techniques including field sketches and cross-sectional diagrams. |
